VMware includes support for ISO images, which represent CDs or DVDs. When you load an ISO image into a VMware program, the virtual machine sees the ISO image as if it were a physical disc. ISO images are useful for loading operating systems or business software on machines that don’t have physical disc drives. You can host ISO images on a file server and make them available over a business network. Load ISO images while a virtual machine is running -- this is equivalent to ejecting a physical disc and inserting a new one.

Click the “Virtual Machine” menu in VMware and select “Virtual Machine Settings.”

Click the “CD / DVD” device on the Hardware tab in the Virtual Machine Settings window. If you don’t see this device in the list, click the “Add” button and select “CD / DVD” in the list of virtual devices to add.
3.
Ensure the “Connected” or “Connect at Power On” check boxes at the top right corner of the window are enabled. Click them if they aren’t.
4.
Select the “Use ISO Image File” option at the right side of the window.
5.
Click the “Browse” button, browse to the ISO image file on your computer and double-click it.
Tips
- You can also load an ISO image file while creating a new virtual machine. Select the “Installer Disc Image File (ISO)” option in the New Virtual Machine Wizard and browse to the ISO file. VMware will install the operating system from the ISO file onto the virtual machine.
- To load multiple ISO images at the same time, use the New button in the Virtual Machine Settings window to add additional CD/DVD devices.
